Come see White House Princess, an original musical about Teddy Roosevelt’s daughter, Alice, written and composed by Harvard College seniors Maureen Clare and Charlotte Daniels! White House Princess follows Alice Roosevelt and her cousin, Eleanor, as they navigate womanhood, queer love, family dynamics, and structures of power in a 20th century society while attempting to live and love on their own terms. Based on hundreds of primary sources – letters, diary entries, photos, interviews, and newspaper headlines – the musical brings to light the Roosevelt women’s emotional truths, covers their rise to political and social influence, and recognizes the power that they wielded. Theodore Roosevelt can do one of two things: He can be the president of the United States, or he can control his daughter Alice. While he’s busy trust-busting in the Oval Office, the American Princess is smoking on the roof of the White House, betting on fights in the city, crashing cars into streetlamps, and being the life of every party – much to the chagrin of her prudish cousin Eleanor Roosevelt (yes, that Eleanor). But when Alice’s fame leads her to DC playboy Nick Longworth, a controversial campaign, and an opportunity to make her political voice heard, will her reputation withstand it? Or is the White House Princess trapped in a gilded cage?
