Ever, Oscar uses Wilde’s fairytale, The Happy Prince, as a narrative parallel. Young writer Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde, son of revolutionary poet Jane Wilde or ‘Speranza’, navigates his queer identity, his love for his family, and the ultimate betrayal by his partner Bosie; this lands Wilde in prison, ultimately leading to his untimely death. Wilde lived a revolutionary and truly tragic life that is told through text, dance, and songs made from his poetry. Ever, Oscar is Tim Burton meets Neil Gaiman, while grabbing a drink with Once (the musical, not the ABC tv show, though kind of that too).
