HURT VILLAGE, co-directed by Jemal McNeil and Tonya Holloway, is a sprawling, energy-packed edgy drama inspired by a true story of gentrification the demolition of one of Memphis most notorious housing projects in 2002. This is a story of a family on the cusp of hope and homelessness. Filled with rap, rhyme, colorfully heart breaking characters, and the art of dissing, HURT VILLAGE is Katori Halls ode and lament for a proud old neighborhood awaiting the bulldozer and the coming-of-age story of 13 year old, Cookie, a girl finding and fighting her way out.This award winning play is the fourth in Katori Hall's "Memphis Plays" series.
