La Maupin is based on the true story of Julie D’Aubigny, bisexual duelist and opera singer who was famous for dueling men and wooing their women. Through a beautiful mix of sword fighting and dance, the show details her almost too incredible to believe exploits (like the time she burned down a nunnery to escape with her lover, or the time she fought 3 men at once- and won!) While exploring Julie’s journey to find happiness and acceptance as a queer woman way ahead of her time. From 6-7pm: We will have a free sword fighting class (As of 12/28 this workshop is now full) From 7- 8pm: We will have a reading of the newest draft of La Maupin featuring live performances from some members of the world premiere cast From 8-9pm: We will have a talk back with the audience about the play and a small reception
