Florida Grand Opera presents: Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas (Florencia in the Amazon)
April 28 - May 5 | Ziff Ballet Opera House
Inspired by the writings of the great Gabriel García Márquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude), Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas is one of the most lyrical and melodious new operas of the past 30 years, embraced by critics and audiences everywhere it has played.
Florencia Grimaldi is a famous soprano on a journey to sing at the opera house in Manaus, Brazil. She hopes that her performance will attract her lover Cristóbal, a butterfly hunter who has disappeared into the rainforest. She boards the steamboat El Dorado for a trip down the Amazon River, along with several passengers who, unaware of her identity, are also traveling to Manaus to hear the great Grimaldi sing.
Featuring Grammy-Award(c) Winner Ana María Martínez, acclaimed as one of the most beloved sopranos in recent Metropolitan Opera history.
Tickets start at $12. Performed in Spanish with English translations.
