Georges Bizet's Carmen is a passionate tale of love, simmering tensions and betrayal, making it perfectly suited to dance. The Miami City Ballet now performs Richard Alston's famed choreography of the story, coming to Au-Rene Theater in Fort Lauderdale, FL, showing from 20 Mar 2015 to 22 Mar 2015.
The company use the heat and flair of flamenco dancing to authentically set the Spanish scene, the intensity of which perfectly reflects the demise of both the jealous Don Jose and the fearsome, restless and reckless Carmen. Classic ballet serves to ornament the contemporary choreography, but does not detract from the intensity of the traditional Spanish dance. Expect a high-energy event from fiery start to tragic finish.
