FIM and United Way of Genesee County bring Morris Day to town in third year of collaboration Kids deserve a chance to experience live performing arts. The community can help make that possible by purchasing tickets to move and groove with Morris Day and The Time Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. at FIM Capitol Theatre. Tickets are on sale now for $55-$100. With his dynamic dancing and smooth, yet gutsy vocals, Morris Day played an essential role in the development of the Twin City dance/club sound of the 1980s. A founding member of Prince’s band, The Time, in 1981, he remained with the group until 1984 when he launched his solo career. Day returned to The Time in 1988 and has performed and recorded with the band off and on since 1995. Through a partnership between FIM and Presenting Sponsor United Way of Genesee County, net proceeds from Morris Day and the Time’s trademark funky performance will be donated to the FIM KidsTix program. KidsTix expands access to the arts by providing admission to live performances for children and their families. The collaborative concert with the United Way is the largest single generator of funds for the program. “FIM is honored to again partner with United Way as we work together to create pathways to programs that enhance the quality of life for our residents, especially our youth,” expressed FIM President and CEO Rodney Lontine. “It is our hope that encouraging kids and families to attend performances together will provide both quality family time and foster the next generation of artists and performing arts enthusiasts. We’ve even expanded our family programming at FIM Whiting Auditorium this year to bring in more people, so it's a great time for these families to take advantage.” Last year, in its inaugural season, 247 families experienced FIM programming through KidsTix. This year, FIM is on track to more than double that number. FIM appreciates the United Way’s support in keeping up the momentum. “Our ongoing relationship with FIM is a way to show crossover in our missions,” said James Gaskin, UWGC CEO. “Sponsoring a community party for all to enjoy at Flint’s own historic Capitol Theatre is a no brainer. In the end, it’s our youth and families who win.” Become a sponsor, support access to the performing arts and join United Way’s annual community celebration on Oct. 5 with Morris Day and The Time. Tickets are available at tickets.thefim.org, 810-237-7333 or at one of the FIM Ticket Center box offices at either FIM Capitol Theatre or FIM Whiting Auditorium.
