BroadwayWorld is saddened to report the passing of performer and mentor John A. Waddell. He passed away on January 1 at the age of 83. Based in Bloomington, IL, Waddell was a trailblazing African American vocalist with an illustrious operatic career.

Tonight's performance of WICKED (January 9th, 2025 at 7:30 PM) in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre has been cancelled due to extreme winds and fire conditions.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater will stage the North American premiere of the new musical 42 Balloons. From the multi-award-winning producers Kevin McCollum (Oh, Mary!, Rent), Andy Barnes and Wendy Barnes (SIX), and Sonia Friedman Productions (Merrily We Roll Along), 42 Balloons is an ‘80s-inspired musical based on the unbelievable true story of Larry Walters' daring lawn chair flight.

Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker and BAFTA winner and SAG Award and Grammy Award nominee Merle Dandridge will join the cast of the Tony® and Grammy Award-winning Best Musical, Hadestown, on Broadway beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Ahead of its final week of performances, Stereophonic, the 2024 Tony Award-winning Best Play from David Adjmi, has announced a West End engagement in May 2025 at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre, and a U.S. national tour.
