Fifty years ago, Vermont’s Bread and Puppet Theater embarked on an extraordinary journey. Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann, the group has spent decades crafting its slapstick street-theater filled with huge papier maché puppets, masked characters, improvisational dance movement, political commentary, and a lively brass band. In this special 50th anniversary show, Bread and Puppet performs Birdcatcher in Hell, a piece originally created for Nixon and Vietnam that’s been updated and redesigned for the Bush-Obama years. Join us as we celebrate thousands of hours of art making, live performance, and political activism, and the many miles traveled by Bread and Puppet.
