THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY, Crystal Field Executive Director, proudly presents Generations of Pride, an evening of speakers and performances reflecting LGBT history pre-Stonewall, the Stonewall Rebellion, and forward to today. Monday June 24 at 7pm. Admission is FREE. This event will present Barbara Love, co-author with Sidney Abbott of Sappho Was a Right-On Woman: A Liberated View of Lesbianism and a pioneer lesbian-feminist activist; and Jim Fouratt, who was already an activist when he experienced the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969 and who participated in subsequent years of organizing and marching. Performances include written work about LGBT life in the 1930s to the present. Some excerpts will be presented by students from Metropolitan College of New York. Authors include Lorraine Hansberry (as Emily Jones); poet Fran Winant; playwright Barbara Kahn, who writes historical plays about LGBT; novelist Vanda, whose series of novels portrays LGBT lives between 1941-1963 in New York City, with forays into other cities in the U.S. and abroad; and others TBD. An audience Q&A will follow. THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY was founded in December 1970 by Crystal Field. It is a unique Cultural Institution that has earned a nationwide reputation for its dedication to nurturing established and emerging playwrights who experiment with new forms and to presenting other experimental and developmental theaters with a very active program of Community Art Services and Festivals which continue to expand theater accessibility. Since its inception, TNC has been welcoming to LGBT artists, including Maria Irene Fornes, H.M. Koutoukas, Moises Kaufman, Harvey Fierstein, Barbara Kahn and Charles Busch.
