May 20-28 the acclaimed indie opera company Heartbeat Opera presents the world premiere of a daring new 90-minute adaptation of Puccini’s iconic romance, BUTTERFLY. The radically staged and re-orchestrated production (stripped down to a string quintet and harp) explodes the stereotype of Puccini’s tragic geisha, which has dominated the Western imagination for over a century. BUTTERFLY is presented as part of the third annual Spring Festival alongside Bizet’s CARMEN (May 21-28). General Admission is $35 ($50 premium, $15 Students) and can be purchased online at Baruch Performing Arts Center.
