In 1937 Brooklyn, "almost 15-year-old" Eugene Jerome and his quirky Polish-American family struggle to stay afloat during the Depression ad the growing threat of war in Europe. This coming-of-age semi-autobiographical comedy captures Eugene's search for identity while dealing with a struggling household where, as Eugene's father states, "If you didn't have a problem, you wouldn't be living here".
