San Francisco Opera honors former General Director David Gockley with the unveiling of a bas-relief in the War Memorial Opera House on August 20, 2024. The ceremony, emceed by current General Director Matthew Shilvock, featured remarks from notable figures including John Gunn and performances by tenor Michael Fabiano and soprano Heidi Stober. The bronze sculpture, created by Jennifer Frudakis-Petry, represents Gockley’s significant contributions to American opera, including the commissioning of numerous new works and the promotion of the art form as accessible to all.
