"The Taming of the Shrew" or "Kiss Me Kate" or "10 Things I Hate About You" or even "The Timing of Us Two" (I just made that one up!)... however you perceive this play, Shakespeare meant it as devise, a diversion, a trick, a mischievous entertainment. His plot revolves around Katherine and Petruchio: the first is a woman who is not afraid to speak her mind, (she's no one's fool!) and the latter, is a man who thinks he can "tame" her in order to win a bet. Everything's a gamble, love most of all! Yes? We take this 434- year-old play, set it in San Francisco in the 1970's (the Summer of Love), mix in a few twists and turns, a gender switch or two adding to the hilarity, and all the while delivering a theatrical experience fit for our times. The Taming of the Shrew: Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!
Marines' Memorial Theatre is at 609 Sutter Street 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA.
