The Contest, written and directed by Gary Graves, explores the intense rivalry between Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci during the Italian Renaissance. Set in 1504 Florence, the play follows the artists as they compete to create a monumental battle scene, with the citizens of Florence deciding the victor. The cast includes Nathaniel Andalis as Michelangelo, Alan Coyne as Niccoló Machiavelli, and Christopher Herold as Leonardo. This world premiere at Central Works reflects the company's dedication to producing new works that engage with historical and social themes.
