In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by "Urine Good Company", a malevolent monopoly that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. However, people can only be pushed so far, and after everyman Bobby Strong's father is arrested for public urination (after he was unable to afford his daily urinal admission), the young man becomes the unlikely face of revolution. This darkly satirical play skewers the legal system, capitalism, bureaucracy, corporatism, and the society in which we all live and contribute to every day. The show also parodies musicals such as The Threepenny Opera, The Cradle Will Rock and Les Misérables, and the Broadway musical itself as a form.
