Regarded as one of the most significant plays of the twentieth century, Harold Pinters THE CARETAKER follows three men trapped in a room, and the power plays that go on between them. Directed by Iain Sinclair (A View from the Bridge, Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), this literary masterpiece will mesmerise audiences at Ensemble Theatre from 14th October until 19th November. Introverted and quiet Aston rescues drifter Davies, who had been living on the street, from a fight, then asks him to be his live-in caretaker. Davies leaps at the chance, but doesnt actually know what a caretaker should do, especially in a room filled with junk. When Astons manipulative younger brother Mike shows up, the power struggle begins. Why does Aston collect all this stuff? Will Davies ever get a pair of decent shoes? And who will fix the drip in the ceiling? THE CARETAKER delves into the turbulent relationships between a man experiencing homelessness and two polar-opposite brothers. Pinter cranks up the tension, piles on the laughs and teases out the emotional foibles of three lonely men in this compelling absurdist theatrical event.
