Artists-in-ResidenceNoche de Oro: A Celebration of 50 YearsFounded 50 years ago by National Medal of Arts recipient, Tina Ramrez, Ballet Hispnico is a renowned Latinx dance organization and was recently recognized by the Ford Foundation as one of Americas Cultural Treasures. Ballet Hispnico brings communities together to celebrate and explore Latinx cultures through innovative dance performances, transformative dance training, and enduring community engagement experiences. Now they will grace Merchant Hall stage with five pieces, including one that celebrates choreographer Gustavo Ramrez Sansanos 19 years with Ballet Hispnico and the vulnerability, care, and hope that comes with each artistic endeavor; Batucada Fantstica, which examines the music and dancers of Carnival in Rio; and more. As an Artists-in-Residence, they will also work with the community through classes and workshops during the week leading up to the performance.
