In The Seagull, Anton Chekhov crafted a bold artistic departure from dramatic action by creating character studies that reveal the internal worlds of the play’s four main characters as they strive to satisfy their desires for love, success and recognition.

One of Chekhov’s four major plays, it has been variously interpreted as a satire, a comedy and a tragedy with comic elements.
