Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.


Playhouse Square Hosts Shakespeare Competition, 2/27

In partnership with Great Lakes Theater Festival, the PlayhouseSquare Community Engagement & Education Department is hosting the Cleveland Branch Finals of the annual English-Speaking Union's (ESU) National Shakespeare Competition on Saturday, February 27. Students from 38 Northeast Ohio schools are participating. Cuyahoga County Public Library Executive Director Sari Feldman will deliver the event's keynote address at 9:00 a.m.

The Building Stage Presents THE RING CYCLE, 1/30-3/13

The Building Stage, a Chicago theater company noted for its unique retellings and adaptations of various media to the stage presents their newest and largest endeavor to date: The Ring Cycle. The Ring Cycle is a non-operatic theatrical re-imagining of the famous Richard Wagner opera cycle, The Ring of the Nibelung. Utilizing original music, circus arts and puppetry in conjunction with the libretti, this epic project will synthesize 16 hours of opera into a six-hour theater piece co-directed by The Building Stage Artistic Director Blake Montgomery and Associate Artistic Director Joanie Schultz. The six-hour production includes two short intermissions and a dinner break. Ticket buyers are invited to pack a picnic or purchase snacks, meals and drinks at the theater. The dinner available for pre-purchase is a $10 boxed sandwich dinner from the popular family-owned Bari Foods (vegetarian options available). Patrons will be greeted with a complimentary cup of hot coffee or cocoa upon entrance and during the dinner break everyone is invited to picnic on the stage with their meal or snacks.

Omaha Theatre Ballet Presents THE RAINFOREST, 2/11-2/21

Dvorak American Heritage Association Presents AN EVENING OF JAZZ WITH GEORGE MRAZ & FRIENDS, 2/26

The Dvorak American Heritage Association will feature An Evening with George Mraz & Friends on Friday, February 26th. World-renowned jazz bassist George Mraz was presented The Medal of the President of The Czech Republic for Lifetime Achievement on his 65th birthday, June 10, 2009 at the Prague Castle. Known for his historic work with jazz icons Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan and Hank Jones, to name a few, Mraz appears for the first time publicly performing a program consisting entirely of his own compositions with legendary drummer Joey Baron (Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, David Bowie, and Michael Jackson...) and stellar tenor saxophonist Rich Perry (Thad Jones/Mel Lewis now Vanguard Orchestra, Maria Schneider's Orchestra, Chet Baker, and Billy Hart). This totally original program has been recently recorded on CD and DVD for release later this year.

Theatre in the Round Players Presents Area Premiere of THE BURIAL AT THEBES, 2/12-3/7

Theatre in the Round Players presents the area premiere of The Burial at Thebes in weekend performances February 12th through March 7th. Irish poet and Nobel Prize winning author Seamus Heaney wrote this new adaptation of the Greek tragedy Antigone. When Creon, the king, refuses to bury her traitorous brother, Antigone defies him and takes the law into her own hands. This short but powerful staging features a striking version of a wise Chorus, and vivid, poetic writing.

Mercer County Artists Exhibit Seeks Entries in Multiple Mediums

New York Winter Restaurant Week Continues Through 2/7

Twice a year, New Yorkers have the chance to experience the city's finest restaurants for a fraction what they might usually spend. New York City Restauant Week began as a lunch-only promational event in 1992. Since then it has grown to incorporate almost 300 restaurants, most of which feature the same restaurant Week deal: $24.07 for a three course lunch, and $35 for dinner. Prices do not include drinks, taxes, and tips.

Starfighter Onstage, LLC Announces New Productions in Developement

Starfighter Onstage, LLC has announced its new projects in development for 2010. First, it will start developing a new musical adapted from the comic novel VIVA MAX! by Jim Lehrer (NewsHour with Jim Lehrer). VIVA MAX! is a satire about a Mexican general who tries to impress a woman who spurned him, embarking on a quest to cross the border into the United States and recapture the Alamo. Jim Lehrer's novel was the source of a 1969 film comedy in which Peter Ustinov played the general. Fred Landau (who wrote the book for the LLC's LAST STARFIGHTER musical) is writing the book, and is developing the novel-to-stage adaptation of the story with Julie Miller. The composer and lyricist will be announced soon.

Performances of the Musical 'The Jack Sprat Low Fat World Tour' begin at the Wharton Center for the Performing Arts in the Pasant Theatre on January 28th, 2010. The performance is directed and choreographed by Devanand Janki (Zanna, Don't!, Junie B. Jones) with music and lyrics by John Forster and book by Michael Mark. The cast features Jen Shafer as Gloria Sprat, Chris Robinson as Jack Sprat, Brandon Piper as MC Hubbard, Sebastian Gerstner and Caitlyn Knisely.

Chris Henry & Royal Family's World Premiere Production of Sean Cullen's Safe Home, directed by award winning director Chris Henry will receive a three performance extension through February 3, 2010.
